From Parent to CEO: Jamison Buxton’s Hemophilia Journey and Leadership

Today on Beyond the Bleeds, John and Heather welcome Jamison Buxton, CEO of the Hemophilia Outreach Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to discuss his journey from a parent of a child with hemophilia to leading an organization dedicated to supporting those with bleeding disorders. Jamison shares his personal experiences, the center’s growth, and the importance of community and comprehensive care for individuals and families managing hemophilia.

Jamison Buxton became deeply involved in the hemophilia community after his son was diagnosed with hemophilia B in 2003. His commitment led him to join the board of directors in 2012, and by 2016, he assumed the CEO role. Under his leadership, the center has expanded significantly, serving an even larger patient population and providing crucial support and resources to those affected by bleeding disorders.

“I wanted to ensure that patients and families had the same care and services
that I was offered in raising my son.” ~ Jamison Buxton

Today on Beyond the Bleeds:

  • Early involvement with a hemophilia treatment center can provide essential information and support for navigating the challenges of a bleeding disorder.
  • Parents need to document everything to explain their child’s condition and any bruises or injuries that may appear.
  • Opening a new clinic in Wausau provides patients with local access to care, reducing the need for long-distance travel.
  • The expansion of the Green Bay clinic was driven by a need to accommodate a growing patient population.
  • Strategic planning with the board of directors ensures that the center meets future demands and continues providing high-quality care.
  • Experiencing the challenges of having a child with a bleeding disorder gives Jameson a personal perspective that influences how he leads the organization.
  • Having a mix of employees with and without personal connections to bleeding disorders enriches the team and enhances patient care.
  • Finding a hemophilia treatment center near you is crucial for accessing specialized care and support.
